THE AFL is experiencing one of the most unpredictable starts to a season in recent memory but it’s time to start establishing a pecking order.

The Cats, Swans, Kangaroos, Power, Giants, Hawks, Crows and Suns all have finals aspirations after solid starts to the season — and all are on show in a ladder-shaping Saturday.

Geelong hosts Sydney and North hosts Port in the early fixtures before GWS fronts Brisbane at home this afternoon.

In the night fixtures, Hawthorn and St Kilda meet in Tassie while the Suns travel to Adelaide.

‘Big money’ in heated three-quarter time melee

A heated melee erupted at three-quarter time of the Swans and Cats blockbuster.

Cat Tom Stewart appeared to hit Swan Tom Papley after the three-quarter time siren before Kieren Jack ran in as players came from everywhere.

The umpires were heard yelling “big money” — reminding players about the fines they might receive for engaging in the melee.

“You can tell who the tight ones are straight away,” Saints legend Nick Riewoldt said.

As the dust cleared from the push-and-shoved, Cats star Zach Tuohy was spotted going on with the melee with young Swan Will Hayward.

“It’s exploding again here,” Fox Footy’s Eddie McGuire said.

“It’s going to be on for young and old when we come back. It’s still going.”

The tussle seemed to ignite the Swans who soared home in the fourth quarter to overcome a 22-point deficit.

Storming home behind a seven goal to one term handed the Swans the 12.14 (86) to 10.9 (69) victory.

Without superstar forward Lance Franklin and midfield gun Dan Hannebery the win for visitors was even sweeter.

The loss pushes Geelong outside of the top eight with a 3-3 record through the opening six games while Sydney climb into the top four.

It also means the Cats’ past three losses at home have all come at the hands of the Swans, who have won three in a row in Geelong for the first time since World War II.
