Ridley Scott Reconsidering NOT Replacing The Xenomorph In Future Alien Movies?

What’s the status of the Alien franchise? That’s a really good question, and I’m not even sure director Ridley Scott knows what’s going on with it. To be fair, film and storytelling are very malleable things, and can pretty much change direction at the drop of a hat, depending on the mood of the person telling the story. This seems to be the case with Ridley Scott and those Alien movies.

Alien: Covenant hit theaters last year, and while it wasn’t poorly received, it didn’t really do much for fans or mainstream moviegoers. As a result, the movie ultimately underperformed at the box office–this is after Scott had expressed a lot of enthusiasm and moving forward into the franchise, with multiple scripts supposedly at least in the works we’re nearing completion. However, on the heels of Alien: Covenant, he seemed to take a step back, deciding whether or not to carry on with the beloved Xenomorph alien design.

“In my career, which has been pretty long, there’s only been, with the greatest respect for the people I’ve worked with, two real, real originals. Funnily enough, I came across a guy called HR Giger and if I hadn’t got that monster you would not have had that movie.”

He goes on to state just how different the movie would’ve been had it not been for that character design.

“It wouldn’t have been the same movie,” he continued. “Whilst the cast was wonderful, with Sigourney [Weaver] and Harry [Dean Stanton] and those people, but without that eighth passenger it wouldn’t have been the same film.”

What do you think of Scott’s comments, and do you think the Xenomorph can ever be replaced? Let us know your comments down below!
