एजेन्सी – मागी विवाह भएको ४० दिनपछि पहिलोपटक भेटेका पतिले कुमारीत्व परीक्षण गर्न आदेश दिएपछि ताजकिस्तानकी १८ वर्षीया एक युवतीले आत्महत्या गरेकी छन । ताजकिस्तानकी १८ वर्षीया रजाब्बी खुरसिदले २४ वर्षीय पति जफर पिरोभको कुमारित्व परीक्षणको आदेशपछि आत्महत्या गरेकी हुन ।
स्थानीयबासीको भनाई उधृत गर्दै प्रहरीले दिएको जानकारी अनुसार खुर्सिदले मागी विवाह भएको ४० दिनपछि पहिलोपटक पति जफरलाई भेटेकी थिइन । तर, भेटमा जफरले पुनः कुमारीत्व परीक्षण गर्नुपर्ने अन्यथा दोस्रो विवाह गर्ने निर्णय सुनाएका थिए । पतिको सो आदेशपछि रजाब्बीले अत्यधिक ‘भिनेगर’ पिएर अत्महत्या गरेको पाकिस्तानी अखवार डेलिमेलले जनाएको छ ।
आफ्नै श्रीमतीलाई आत्महत्या गर्न बाध्य बनाएको आरोपमा अहिले जफरलाई प्रहरीले नियन्त्रणमा लिएको छ । रजाब्बीको मृत्युपछि सरकारी पोस्टमार्टममा उनको कौमार्यसमेत परीक्षण गरिएको थियो । दुई चरणको कौमार्य परीक्षणमा रजाब्बी कुमारी नै रहेको देखिए पनि यी दुबै परीक्षणलाई जफरले विश्वास गरेका छैनन ।
‘रेडियो फ्रि युरोप’काअनुसार रजाब्बी परिवारले उनका छोरीलाई विवाहपश्चात् जफरले दोस्रो विवाह गर्नका लागि निकै दबाब दिएका थिए । तर, जफरले यो भनाईलाई अस्वीकार गरेका छन । ‘मेरो श्रीमतीले मलाई दोस्रो विवाहको लागि लिखित अनुमति दिएकी थिइन् । किनभने उनी कुमारी थिइनन् र उनको अरुसँगै सम्बन्ध रहिसकेको थियो,’ जफर भन्छन ।
रजाब्बीकी आमा फजिला मिर्जोइभाले भने छारी हिंसाको नराम्रो शिकार भएको बताएकी छन । ‘मेरी छोरी बदनामी र हिंसाको शिकार भएकी छन् । मैले राष्ट्रपति इमोली रहमोनसँग मद्दतका लागि अनुरोध गरेकी छु,’ उनी भन्छिन । उनले रजाब्बीको कोही केटासंँग यौनसम्बन्ध नभएको दाबी गरिन । ‘रजाब्बीले सधैं आफ्ना दुई अपांग दाइलाई हेरचाह गर्ने गर्थिन,’ उनले भनिन । जफरले श्रीमतीलाई आत्महत्या गर्न बाध्य पारेको प्रमाणित भएमा ८ वर्ष जेल सजाय हुने प्रहरीले बताएको छ ।
BP Highway comes as a boon for Sindhuli folks
Until recently, Ratanchura VDC in the district was a secluded village comprising of 69 households, most of them belonging to Dalits who depended on subsistence farming for their livelihoods. But after the village got linked with the BP Highway, Sindhuli Bazaar, one of the main market areas in the district, is now just 36 kilometres away (or approximately one-hour drive). What this has done is effectively paved the path for commercial farming in what was once a remote village.
Local resident Sabitra Thapa, who earned around Rs 35,000 last year from vegetable farming, said, “This is the first time that I was able to generate this much money from vegetable farming in my field.” While earlier she harvested corn and millet in her land, but which was barely enough for self-consumption, now large amount of chillies, tomatoes and other vegetables she produces in her farm reach the nearby markets by bus where they are sold at good prices.
The 160 km-long BP Highway passes through the Mahabharat Range in Sindhuli while connecting Dhulikhel in Kavrepalanchowk district to Bardibas in Mahottari. Also known as the Sindhuli Road, the highway has become the third major highway after the Prithvi Highway and Araniko Highway linking the Kathmandu Valley to other parts of the country. It has significantly reduced travel time to and from the eastern districts of Nepal.
