Brock Lesnar defeated Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 34 on Sunday night, retaining the WWE Universal championship and stunning a sellout crowd at New Orleans’ Superdome.
Reigns, groomed as a world champion since his days in Orlando-based NXT, failed again in his quest to win a world championship at WrestleMania. Lesnar’s F-5 finishing move has been unbeatable for months, and Reigns kicked out after five F-5s but could not survive a sixth. It has been rumored that Lesnar is leaving WWE to return to UFC soon, but this result may mean changes are in the works.
The match, which ended after midnight Eastern, closed an enjoyable but long WWE extravaganza that included some stellar matches and very few duds.
I would rate Charlotte Flair’s Smackdown women’s-title win over Asuka as the best match of the night, though Ronda Rousey’s pro-wrestling debut and AJ Styles’ title win over Shinsuke Nakamura both deserve high marks.
