Firefighters are warning people about the dangers of poorly-maintained gas heaters, following an explosion in Melbourne’s south-east that’s left a man with serious burns this morning.
The man, aged in his 40s, suffered burns to 30 per cent of his body in the incident at his Frankston home shortly before midday.
Authorities say the man was taken to the Alfred Hospital with burns affecting his arms, face, and chest.
Country Fire Authority Duty officer Paul Carrigg says it’s a timely reminder to anyone with a gas heater, as winter approaches.
“This time of year, we get a whole lot of fires relating to heaters,” he says. “My advice is that those heaters can be dangerous if they’re not serviced properly.”
