CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has alleged that the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and Netra Bikram Chand led Communist Party of Nepal have been working together to foil the upcoming elections.

Speaking at a press meet organised in Ghorahi of Dang district on Thursday, leader Oli accused that the NC and Chand’s party held a joint meeting in Dolakha to forge alliance for anti-election activities.

“Congress has been promoting anti-poll activities instead of controlling it. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has been exerting pressure to release those held with arms,” said Oli. “The government has been transferring the police officers defying its order. AIG Mingmar Lama of Province-5 was recalled at the police headquarters only because he refused to abide by the government’s command.”

He went on to say that the government has been violating the election code of conduct rather than cooperating for its compliance. He claimed the government has breached the election code by promoting and transferring police officials, interfering in projects of long-term importance, and scrapping the registrations of organisations.

“What else can be more corrupt conduct than this? Would it be appropriate for the government to continue its activities that affect the elections?” He questioned. Saying that Prime Minister’s moves are not supportive to elections, CPN-UML chairman urged the government and Nepali Congress not to make a mockery of democracy. He said that the intelligentsia of the nation should speak up against the government’s wrong activities.
